About us » Charity

LIDO-LANG Technical Translations has always been an active supporter of education, including scientific and cultural initiatives for gifted and talented students. We have a strong affiliation with any initiatives and projects that help young people to learn foreign languages, acquaint themselves with the wider world and experience cultural events.

Our sponsoring and charity activities to date include:

 1. The Professor Józef Nedoma Scholarship

In 2008, we set up a private Scholarship Fund, which commemorated the 420th anniversary of Nowodworski High School in Krakow, the 70th anniversary of Professor Józef Nedoma’s graduation, the 40th anniversary of Jerzy Nedoma’s graduation and the 10th anniversary of Andrzej Nedoma’s graduation from Nowodworski High School.

The scholarship aims to:

  • provide financial help to exceptionally gifted and talented graduates of Nowodworski High School
  • promote the life stance of the Fund Patron, which combines a love of science with a passion for foreign languages
  • promote the idea of learning foreign languages not only for the sake of it, but also as a means to broaden the mind into other areas of knowledge
  • keep in memory the Fund Patron as one of the distinguished graduates of the School.

Professor Józef Nedoma (1920-1990) was a Nowodworski High School student, who was, in later life, deported to a Siberian work camp. He was a scientist, teacher, linguist and translator. His education was made possible only because of the scholarship that he was granted as a student of Nowodworski High School. The Scholarship Fund, named after Professor Józef Nedoma, is his way of repaying this debt with gratitude and a continuation of the support that is provided to the most talented students. Each year during the end-of-year assembly, LIDO-LANG awards the scholarship to one of the students selected by the Scholarship Fund Board.

So far, the following students have been awarded the scholarship:

  • Agata Kowol, form III B1 in 2008
  • Katarzyna Obrał, form III A1 in 2009
  • Jakub Stawiski, III B in 2010
  • Bartosz Grabski, III B in 2011

2. Sponsoring the SLOT Fest ‘About the East’ in Krakow

This festival is organised by the Association of Local Creative Centres (Stowarzyszenie Lokalnych Ośrodków Twórczych – SLOT), which also hosts the SLOT Art Festival, one of the largest artistic-cultural events taking place in Poland. The Krakow SLOT Fest focuses on presenting the works of the artists of the Orient. “The Sun Rises in the East” SLOT Fest is a major Polish artistic and cultural event concerning the East. The festival abounds in such events as: slide shows, travellers’ stories, film screenings and topical lectures. Lovers of a somewhat more interactive contact with the Orient cam participate in a series of practical workshops. The festival aims to acquaint the Polish society with the rich culture of the states of the East. LIDO-LANG has supported the festival since 2008.
