The 2009 annual award ceremony for the Professor Józef Nedoma Scholarship

On Sunday 14th June 2009, the Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School in Kraków will be celebrating the end of the academic year in the Kraków Philharmonic. During the event, the annual Scholarship of the Nedoma Family (all graduates of Nowodworski - the oldest Polish secular high school) will be awarded to one of the students. Last year the Professor Józef Nedoma Scholarship Fund was set up.

It commemorated the following occasions:

  • the 70th anniversary of the graduation of Professor Józef Nedom a, the spiritual patron of Lido-Lang Technical Translations
  • the 40th anniversary of the graduation of Jerzy Nedoma , Lido-Lang co-founder and Chairman
  • the 10th anniversary of the graduation of Andrzej Nedoma , Lido-Lang Development Manager

Professor Józef Nedoma (1920-1990) was a Nowodworski High School student, who was in later life deported to a Siberian work camp. He was a scientist, a pedagogue, a polyglot and a translator. His education was made possible only because of the scholarship he was granted as a student of the Nowodworski High School. The Scholarship Fund, named after Professor Józef Nedoma, is a way of paying off this debt of gratitude, an initiative taken on by his son and grandson. The scholarship aims to:

  • help exceptionally gifted and talented Nowodworski High School graduates
  • promote the life stance of the Fund Patron which combined a love of science with a passion for foreign languages
  • promote the idea of learning foreign languages not only for the sake of it, but also as a means to broaden the mind into other areas of knowledge
  • keep in memory the Fund Patron as one of the distinguished graduates of the School.

The Scholarship Fund Board includes: the School Headteacher, Jerzy Nedoma, his daughter - Aleksandra Baster (nee Nedoma) and son Andrzej Nedoma (all graduates of Nowodworski). As part of the initiative, the Board selects one graduate, who complies with the aims of the Scholarship, and who is then granted 1,000 EUR.

This year's Scholarship will go to Katarzyna Obrał, a student of 3A1 Form.  Katarzyna became the laureate of numerous local and higher-level competitions in Mathematics and Physics, and also reached the final of the AGH (Kraków University of Science and Technology) admission competition - ‘The Diamond AGH Index Book'. Katarzyna spends lots of her time learning foreign languages. She passed her German DSD C1 exam and also received a Certificate of Achievement in English. She is planning to continue her education within the fields of Mathematics and Foreign Languages (Applied Mathematics at AGH as well as English and German Philology).

The Scholarship will be awarded by Andrzej Nedoma, Lido-Lang Technical Translations Development Manager
